Mike Moore

Mostly full session, 50 minutes

The "break" (I wound up juggling a little bit because a friend wanted to) served its purpose well: I was feeling good today! Everything went well, but nothing particular to report.

Throwing Technique, 5ballPREP, 5 balls, 4 balls, 56 minutes

Things worth noting:
-If you can simply reach up and grab the next ball, (without reaching out) that means you were throwing correctly.
-When warming up, move on to the next trick when the current trick your doin is beginning to feel comfortable. So you don't have to spend so much time practicing stuff you're already capable of.
-If you're feeling tired, or not so energetic, jog, run, do jumping jacks, anything to help get the blood flowin.
-No more throwing technique stuff. Save it for one session dedicated to that some other time. maybe once a month?
-(5) flash x10, 6 throws x3-5, same with 7,8,9? (i usually skip 9), 10. Then work on short controlled runs. Idk about long runs, i might save it for the end of each week or something. Or just let them happen when I've got the pattern under control. Do this so that you can spend more time on the short controlled runs, and make progress.
-Reaching out is something I struggle with at times when working on 5.
-My lefty feels wierd.
-Focus on where you're actually aiming your throws. I noticed at times that my pattern got a little bit wide, noticably on my leftside, idk if my right side was affected too. I like to aim for narrow throws inside the frame of my body, if that makes sense.

^This is not meant to be advice, these are just things i thought about at the end of my session. I wanted to jot it all down so it wasn't forgotten.

4 balls, 45 minutes

Felt compelled to practice some more, but I ended up spending too much time on the same things. On the bright side, practice started out well, and I did good.

Worth noting:
-noticing how you messed up, or what caused you to stop the pattern is good practice for awareness.
-OBVIOUSLY, if you read this entry, it's not a good idea to practice the same thing for too long. >.>

3 clubs, 4 clubs, 40 minutes

3 clubs:

Warm up
44502 (2 = thumb roll), two times and back to cascade.
55113, the second "1" behind my back. I did two connected rounds today, both starting with my right hand and with my left. (Back to cascade afterwards as usual).
55500 with hand clap on the first "0", once and back to cascade.

4 clubs:

Fountain, doubles. Best attempt 22 catches, clean-ish finish, stopped when the rythm started to get wierd. More than one round close to 20 catches, it feels like I'm at least making a little bit of progress, but I know I need to practice more.

3 balls, 4 balls, 5 balls, 6 balls, 90 minutes

Same practice as yesterday, although I realized something. If I practice 5 balls for 30 minutes, my pattern gets VERY sloppy. Even if I do short controlled runs then I get very bored. So starting tommorow I will just do a couple 5 ball runs.
I realized I had to fill the remaining hour of practice with something, so I decided to pick up new skills: balancing, head bouncing, and hackey sacking. I worked 15 minutes for each skill. For balancing I used a rolled up newspaper taped together (it works pretty well), and for head bounce I used a soccer ball.
They worked good, I want to do this every practice, unless some of the skills I start to dislike. Now to talk my about ACTUAL juggling practice.
Highs:backcrosses(90 catches) 4 ball shower (40 catches)
Lows: overheads again. Couldn't beat 16 catches async and 14 catches sync.

7 balls, 9 balls flashing, 3 heavy balls, 5 heavy balls, 195 minutes

3b freestyle, misc - 20 min. 5 heavy balls, 200 gr casc - 10 min. 9b flashing - 30 min. Mostly unswift, unspeedy, but got some good attempts and 7 gathers once. I'm not at a level where I can think about single n.-th throws needing special attention, like I had been lately. Grip was better today (yesterday's problem has surely been dry earth being like powder on the balls). My 'ladder'-launch was way too far spread in height. "Not all that high" made it a bit better towards end. Unit somewhat wearisome, so spared my energy for ... 7b casc - 135 min. Whole session partly powerless like yesterday, but started and ended with better phase. Mainly early fails, but a few runs round 30 throws, one or two >=40 th.

5 balls, 35 minutes

5b - 20 + 15 min. blind bit better than yesterday partly got halfway well-spaced & -shaped & -timed patterns at flashing 7-11 throws, and could give several blind attempts a go. Twice 3 gathers, once 5 touches [lol], twice 6 throws (only a bit better than nothing at all). Some fluent cascade on time remaining.

3-5 Clubs, 45 minutes

3c - Singles/Doubles/Triples, 423, 50505
4c - Async/Sync transitions X 5 (clean for several practices consecutively)
4c - Scissors: more difficult than 534, but easier than 50505 in triples. Should I learn with balls first?
4c - 552, 53444
5c - Very good.

Other health notes:

Cut on hand between middle and ring fingers has returned, is now more serious.

From December (208) to August (187) I am down just over 20 lbs. All my lifts (bench, squat, and dead) are down >25%. I feel limber and a little weak. I look really good and I juggle better. My weigh has to stabilize.

Short summer nights mean less sleep.

Total practice time: 45 minutes
