Ok there's approximately an icon 'matching' everything there...

glitch wise the flower sucks, and the victory needs a new drop shadow, but otherwise pretty close
they are all svg, I can upload them at different sizes of png etc

RegularJugular account still cannot preview or post, I have cleared my cookies

You seem to have chosen to re-design all the existing ideas. I don't think Orin was thinking that the icons have to be "a heart, some shades, etc". They could be anything? Also, there seems to be no linking 'theme' to these, which I think would be nice.

I just wanted to thrash out some designs so I can learn how the graphics program I've got works. Preferably designs that I didn't immediately hate. I didn't feel there was a huge amount about what they were for or how they would be used.

Name me some awards and I'll see whether I can add some images for them.

Apologies for my myopic lack of deviation from the current awards paradigm, I'll try to think 'outside the box' in future. :)

Indeed, good start, although a bit too much use of blurring effects for my liking!

Also wot Void said about the images. The ones I come up with were created by typing the alphabet & changing the font to the various web/wingdings & picking out vaguely award related images then adding some colour in Paint. I think the amount of effort I put in really shows through.

Think of the images like the volunteering badges given out at festivals, they don't necessarily have to mean anything themselves. Eventually I hope the award itself will come to mean something & that value will be applied to the image, rather than the image applying value to the award.

For example the awards at http://projecteuler.net/ are various geometric shapes & patterns that work really well.

 Originally I wanted to have the icons simple like  http://raphaeljs.com/icons/ but I also wanted practice at blurring effects, flashy doesn't really suit the site though, so, yeah I learned some things I wanted to learn, thought I'd do the simplification or whatever needed to be done later.

So a unicycle, a club or clubs, a kendama, some rings etc in the style of header 7.5, or even the post notifiers wouldn't be such a bad idea. Would've been much easier if I'd thought of doing that instead...

Probably should get a projecteuler account...
