Hmmmm.... This is a competition thread? Okay, I'm game...
Juggling is exophthalmically fascinating

Kelhoon - - Parent

Juggling is at least 3 doors full.

Cedric Lackpot - - Parent

42

KaurO - - Parent

Damn, 42 is hard to beat.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

Interesting, how comepetition threads works?
You just say something like:
I juggled 9 balls for 60 minutes (yes, I'm a robot), anyone can beat this record?
And then people posts their records?

Mornington Crescent?

We don't normally allow Rushdons Opening Gambit on this site as we usually play by the Shaftsbury First Inversion rules. Given that those insist on a minimum of 1 diagonal traversal per game, the ROG is clearly (although admittedly not explicitly) against the rules.

My mistake, I thought that with the introduction of the EuroStar, you might have been playing one of the 'express' variations. I should have known better. Bloody traditionalists.

Dylan - - Parent

Sorry guys, I think I win...

WHAT? It didn't post my infinity symbol... T.T

Which brings me to a new topic!

The Void - - Parent

Hah, where's the "Mark as funny" button?

Colin E. - - Parent

Careful there, you're on a slippery slope towards phpBB and other generic web-forums which are thick on features but thin on content.

I'll -1 that suggestion :-P

+4 Insightful

Colin E. - - Parent

+2 tactical up-voting of people who up-vote my idea.

I like the way that in the absence of a specific feature, convention fills the gap. It feels a lot more organic.

Anthopomorphic .sigs! Blimey, not seen one of those in *years*

I've long been a fan of building tools and sitting back for a bit to see what people do with them, what shortcomings they identify with the tool and how they work out ways around them.

Twitter is quite interesting from that point of view, it's quite a simple system (essentially 140 characters and 2 modifiers - '#' and '@' to link tweets together by tag or by person) - as time went on, people wanted ways to repeat what others had said, which started off with a convention of "RT @original poster" and later grew into a proper feature. Hashtags started as a way to reference other groups of tweets, but grew into competitions, "follow fridays" etc. Other conventions have grown around the tool in an organic manner. Those conventions which work stick around, those that don't die out.

I think the next week or so will be interesting, as Orinoco isn't around to immediately implement feature requests. Traffic is rising, so people will start working around shortcomings, we get to start inventing conventions and see what sticks - those that do stick can have feature hung off them later.

He'll no doubt come back from BJC with a load of new ideas as well...

I'm with you on this one. I quite like all the slightly odd Twitter conventions #FF /cc etc ... it's quite good fun trying to work out what all these conventions mean, and once you have you feel like you are part of some sort of club. It also means that it is quite easy to create a fully functional and feature complete Twitter client.

I quite like the Edge's Small Talk forums, it has the two features that matter the most to me, threading and an indication of which messages you have read. I don't really want much more than that.

Definitely feels like this could be the place people move towards when the IJDb finally calls out last orders.
