Cedric Lackpot -

Some new Rudy Horn videos have come online.

They're on the channel of someone called Michael Horn, presumably his son.

Here's the example which was posted on /r/juggling, of Rudy on The Ken Dodd Show in '71, in comedy sped-up time which was all the rage in the 70s. His footwork is, um, interesting. I think he was probably getting paid by the step.

ooh! Thanks for spotting that.

That'll make for an interesting diversion tonight

Thanks for that - loved it :-)

Just after 2 minutes did he really flick the short mental thing from his foot to a face balance!? How is that even possible?

Owen Greenaway - - Parent

*metal

Little Paul - - Parent

it was a spoon, and yes it is possible but my god it's not easy.

Little Paul - - Parent

Agreed!

If you're reading this thread thinking "Rudy who? why should I watch this" here are some random thoughts as I was watching it.

The 7 ball force bounce off the drum was nice, but I really liked the standard lamp tricks (including the really solid 7 ring run with a head balance) and the spoon kickup to forehead catch is just *lovely*

Globalls in 1971 is interesting as well. I know gloclubs go back a long way, and UV was all the rage in the 80s but I didn't know about illuminated globalls being around before that, I mean I had assumed they must have existed but had never seen any.

The unicycle/saucer kickup trick is really nicely done too.

I am glad you elaborated on the contents of the video, Paul, I saw the purple sparkly backcloth and the length of the video and originally gave it a miss.
The teaspoon kick up to balance is pretty amazing. I wonder if his unicycle and kick bowls onto your head act is the ones all the chinese circuses have copied or if it was a standard act before then (slightly suspicious how much it leaned over without falling when he dismounted)

Little Paul - - Parent

If you watch the other vids, the bowls are quite deep and have a really pronounced foot on them, which is going to make the stack a lot more solid. That said, he drops the stack in this one at around the 4:45 mar

My german isn't good enough to follow what he gives as an excuse, and the youtube automatic translation of the captions is charmingly nonsensical

Mïark - - Parent

Without pretending to speak German I think he is complaining about the ground being uneven and the light being in his eyes - std unicycle/juggler excuses being used even back then

Daniel Simu - - Parent

Just the host is saying this, he is not complaining at all right?

Daniel Simu - - Parent

You should try and watch the reportage about him. It is perhaps quite boring if you don't know any German, but he does have some nice pictures and clips where he stacks cups and plates on his head, very different and probably harder than these.

Daniel Simu - - Parent

Ah, this takes place actually in the very beginning of the video.

He likes to talk about how unique and rare his skills were and how he became a well paid artist from Germany in short time. He comes from a circus family but none of his kids have followed the tradition. He claims he can also sing. That is basically the whole video summarized.
