Hello everyone, today I have created my account here, and I would like to introduce myself.

My name is Matthew, I'm 20 years old, and I currently live in South Wales in a town called Llanelli. I have been juggling for about 3 and a half years, and unicycling for 2. I currently work for a housing developer as a sales negotiator.

I am able to juggle with 5 balls, and have about 10 tricks perfected, but I can do quite a lot with 3 and 4 balls. I can also juggle with 4 clubs, and I know a few 3 club tricks. I can do 4 rings, but I really don't enjoy using them.

The reason I am here is that I am looking for some advice from some of you about developing a first routine (I have never done a juggling gig, I have only ever done workshops). I am looking to develop a simple routine of about 4-5minutes long, as I am looking to become a hotel/holiday resort 'animator' (Running activities and games -not just juggling). But I would like to be able to offer a routine to add to a weekly show or event night.

The main problem I am having at the moment is that I have NO IDEA how to combine the tricks I know, into a smooth pattern, which is accompanied by some music. I have until January to get something under my belt.

Any tips, advice, tutorials, or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hey hello and welcome.

I've not performed before so nothing to offer there I'm afraid but you should find some great advice here I think.

With regards to combining your tricks, you could try separating one ball/club from the others using colours - example x2 white x1 red. Keeping your mind on the red ball and letting the two white balls run in autopilot is a simple way (I think) to 'split' the juggling.. you might find that helpful to link the tricks.

That's a very good idea, having the different colour ball to be able to know where to start! I will look into getting 1 new ball :P

Hello Vazonun

I think the correct spelling is 'animateur'. Andy Bosco had this on his business cards & joked that people would read it quickly as 'amateur'!

Firstly I'm not convinced that your suggestion that you need to do smooth combinations of tricks to make a good routine is correct. I did the same thing when I first started performing but was told not too by my boss because, "no one can follow what you are doing".

Performing is very different to & IMO a lot harder than running workshops. To start with though try thinking about what you do to entice people in to your workshops, the stuff you do when people are too far away to talk to. What do you do that turns their heads? Find a trick that makes a passer by stop, once you've done the trick make eye contact & smile, then do another trick. See how many tricks you can get them to stay for.

Oh & obligatory: The business of shows.

Hey Matthew,

First of all, welcome. Now for your routine, I have a few things that I normally do:

I start off with 3 balls, juggle them a bit, then I do a halfshower on one side, move it to mill's mess and then do an half shower on the other side. After that I juggle a shower, then high low, if you know how to do that, into a 531 and then 441, from 441 into box, from box into a little shower, into box again, into shower on the other side. Then I do some pirouette tricks and some bodythrows.

That's about my basic 3 ball routine I hope it helped you a bit, try doing stuff like this with more balls maybe? My most important tip would be to look greatly at the tricks and try to just combine them. :)

Hope I helped you! :D
