Wonderful take on the comedy of Buster Keaton from the ever excellent Every Frame a Painting:

If you think you don't need to watch this you are wrong.

Linky no worky :(

I tried to work out what it was supposed to be but YouTube keeps giving me "no such video"

Orinoco - - Parent

ahem.

Little Paul - - Parent

That's much better.

I much prefer Keaton (and Harold Lloyd) to Chaplin. Much more my sort of humour.

I agree, I always found Chaplin too 'arch'. Did love "Modern Times" though.

Agree!

Great video, thanks for posting, Orin.

What he said. I watched another one on that group and discovered why most comedy films made recently are boring.

I have the same. I recently started watching/studying both Keaton and Chaplin films, and the Keaton ones speak much more to me!

Saw this somewhere or other last night; swooned. Top stuff.

This is one of my favourite series on YouTube.

I've got an excellent documentary on Keaton in three episodes of 50 mins each.

I've uploaded the first one here:

I'll upload eps 2 & 3 in a couple of days if anyone wants them.

[It's already on YT in a couple of forms, but none are good to view - unless you happen to like chipmunk speech or loudly dubbed Russian]

Want!

Thanks for these!

I'm not going to get a chance to watch them for a day or two, but I've done the "watch later" thing so I don't forget them! :)

Thanks. Excellence.

Finally got round to watching the first episode this evening. Top quality, fascinating stuff. I'm so impressed with the ingenuity they used to do so much with so little technology.

...& I've now just finished the last one. Thank you very much for these. It's a fascinating story, which I knew very little of. Such an extraordinary man.

I finally got to this about an hour ago and now I am watching this guy's entire video series, when it is past my bedtime, and it's all your fault.

I finished the Buster Keaton series a few days ago. It's an incredible story, which I only knew parts of before. The music in the documentary is really good too, composed by Carl Davis.

From the movies I've seen, The Cameraman is the peak of Keaton. The General is probably his best known though.

The Buster Keaton series is on my todo list now, but just for clarity, the original youtube series https://www.youtube.com/user/everyframeapainting is also completely fascinating. There is a whole episode about the role of chairs in film. The series is worth it just for the compilations of interesting visual moments from various films I mostly haven't seen and now wish I had.
