I enjoyed this, especially the gaff on the hat which I don't think I've seen before, but which makes so much sense!

Haha, I loved the egg through plate gag!

Do you think this hat is gaffed too?? 2O:35

Love that act, the side by side hat/cig stealing bit is beautifully tightly choreographed and fast enough to almost hide what's going on.

There is one shot which makes it look
like the hat might be gaffed in that there is a light spot on the ring boxes behind and at the top of the hat which isn't there in previous shots from the same camera angle, but I can't see anything up with the back of the hat in other shots that show it.

The glasses however are missing the right arm, but handled in such a way that you wouldn't notice unless you were looking for it.

Lovely act, I bet it was stunning in person (and in colour!)

Yeah, I noticed the glasses before, I still need to try it out some time!

A short article about the Piero Brothers with some history and another video (with totally different tricks):

Very funny in Bolivia! Really enjoyed those other two videos, and reading the article. Thanks Scott, and David!

Hey David Cain, nice article on the Peiro Brothers, I have another Peiro Bros clip from Hollywood Palace that I shall dig out. Also a couple of Teddy Peiro & Patricio clips from Paul Daniels' show.

Side note: Your article on Juggling Related Injuries and Deaths says the Piero Bros were 'South African'. Hmmm, time for a re-edit perhaps...

David Cain, some more info on the Peiro Brothers vid. (a bit of disappointment, to be honest)

I was wondering how that black & white clip could be the clip Charlie Parker was watching when he died, since it's dated 1956, and he died in 1955. (I mentioned this a while back in a thread on cigar box stacking). My first assumption was that the clip was dated wrongly, but I did a little more digging and found that the clip is not the one Bird would have been watching:

Here's the listing of the Dorsey show on 12 March 1955, the date Charlie Parker died:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ajbsnjn5qdb2t0e/peiro.jpg?dl=0
(It's actually Jackie Gleason's Show - the Dorsey brothers were guest hosting.)

[If you want to track down the book, URL is here]

I also managed to find the full episode containing that Peiro Bros black & white clip -here.
As you can see from the lineup, it's definitely not the 12 March 1955 show.

I vaguely remember hearing about it on the DVD extras of "Bird", which used that Peiro Bros clip - something about them not being able to find the actual show clip. (I may be imagining this memory).

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but being the fine historian that you are I figured you'd rather have the true facts.

That's some great detective work. Well done!

Here are the vids:

Peiro Bros - Ed Sullivan Show 1965 - the same 3 club routine with hats & cigs, but nice close footage to appreciate their comic chops:

(not from Hollywood Palace as I previously stated - my mistake)

Teddy Peiro & Patricio - Paul Daniels show 1979:

Teddy Peiro & Patricio - golf tricks - Paul Daniels show 1980:

Enjoy!

Thanks for correcting my mistake (I guess I can't believe everything I read online) and for uploading those videos. I've corrected the article and inserted those videos. You're the best.
