Spotted these cheap clubs on Play. Alarmingly cheap but look a lot better than the usual clubs I have seen in toy shops. Has anyone tried these or does anyone know of anyone who has?

44cm long is a bit wee, standard pirouette clubs are 52cm long (20½ inches)
Is there anything to indicate these clubs are not just cheap decorated one-piece plastic clubs (which is what you might expect for that price).

Here's some even cheaper clubs £5 for 3 or 4 and free delivery - wouldn't recommend them though.

I noticed the short length too & I advised caution. Would be nice to hear a review from a juggler though.

I saw some clubs that looked like those ones on Play at Sheffield Circus Gathering where a child was juggling three and managing a few tricks. After some negotiation I tried them and they seemed fairly adequately made, but just far too light for me to juggle comfortably; on the other hand the child found my Pirouettes much too heavy.

I guess they're similar to the ones Adrian Pole used to use. Where is he now?

I saw him last year in Leicester. He doesn't really juggle anymore, but he was taking up playing piano and doing pretty well. He's also much taller! =0

Adrian is a somewhat angst-ridden teen, battling the teenage anxiety caused by his dedication to being an angst-ridden teen. Flippant? Sure, but there's a kernel of truth there too.

He's fairly active on Basefook, if my infrequent visits are anything to go by, and he still juggles occasionally - he started coming to Leicester Jugglers again before we folded - but he's seventeen and naturally has a world full of other distractions to occupy him. He's preparing himself to take a degree of some sort I think, but I forget what his subject is.

I bumped into him in the basement of a bookshop in Leicester a few months ago and we had a few brief minutes to catch up. I'm glad to report that he's just a normal young person with all sorts of interests, he hasn't repudiated juggling outright but it just ain't his main thing any more, and for a person with his prodigious talent for learning that's no bad thing in my book. I suspect he will make a good fist of whatever he eventually turns his hand to, but in the meantime there's his stupid parents and his daft-arse brother and sister to bitch about. Normal seventeen year old stuff, see?

He's still 50% charming and 50% awkward as fuck - when we met in the bookshop I was aware of someone staring at me for a full minute before he plucked up the courage to ask if I was Jay! - but that's no different to any other bright but self-concious individual of his age.

So, long story short, he's in a good place with an entire interesting life in front of him, and behind him a massive contribution to British juggling for which I will be eternally grateful.

Thanks for the update. I too had a long break from juggling from the age of around 14 to when I started university at 18. I believe that many other jugglers did the same, including Jason Garfield and Ben Beever.

Ady's original clubs were a set of short-handled Rad Fish. Which were an abomination by anybody's standards, but which suited his tiny eleven-year-old self down to the ground. He flogged them on eBay when he traded up, which is quite a shame as they would be minor memorabilia nowadays.
