What if juggling was... BIG?
What if it was as popular as a mainstream sport (soccer, basketball, etc); What if they taught it and had competitions in most schools? What if the best jugglers got paid multimillions to do their thing?
Would the props be the same, or drastically different?
What about the current numbers juggling world records? Would any of the current holders still be on there?
Any other thoughts? One can dream.
Being the old fart that I am I see a lot of negatives.
Festivals would get much more expensive for starters. More mainstream leads to less community which means fewer volunteers which equals higher costs. Million dollar stars will command higher fees which will get passed onto festival attendees. See also Juggling and Celebrity.
Shows would become less interesting. Competitions or an enforced curriculum in schools means focusing on measurable feats with a narrower range of props rather than the more intangible skills of stage presence, persona etc. There are a lot of kids that don't like soccer, basketball & other mainstream sports, forcing them to participate is mentally scarring.
Props would become more mass produced, which is not necessarily a bad thing because it can drive prices down but often to the detriment of quality. I think that high end manufacturers like Henry's & Renegade would struggle.
On the plus side I could start charging a subscription fee for clubs & events to advertise on the Edge & retire!
I'm in a low energy trough after the BJC, which is what I blame the misreading of "Shoes would become less interesting" on.

I could see this go another way. Music is a pretty big thing, yet there's still loads of variation within it. And it would be great to have more people studying form, posture, learning techniques, etc. Well, in my opinion.
