The Void -

It was quite busy at #altern8 last night. Almost no room to juggle. Or at least, so I'm told, as I was stuffed with dinner and on a really comfy sofa beforehand, and I couldn't quite persuade myself to get up and go. I'll bet there was tea drinking and biscuit eating aplenty.

But tonight I did go to #dabhands tonight. Quite busy - 9 people, although the Kung Fu (or was it Tai Chi?) people said they were going to show up, but didn't. Kev, Sam and Rachel arrived in time for the tea break. Kev did some passing with Ian and Chris. They were really good at the standing-an-arm-and-a-club's-length-apart pattern, but I missed what else they were doing. Rachel got the hang of the changing directions poi circles. New bloke Fred came along and juggled balls, working on his quite tight 4 ball mills mess amongst other stuff. Rob Fiery was in town and showed up for the evening to play with clubs. That club-on-club-knob cascade pattern will be really nice once its solid.

I "practice passed" 6th Dan! So that's once a month for the last four months. Good, but it'd be nice to get a 2nd one in this month if I can. I also was trying a new trick with a new kendama, and played around with my new video light.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with that light, as I very nearly bought one last week

Initial experiments suggest a sheet of printer paper paperclipped onto the barn doors is a bit too abrupt a diffuser, and no diffuser is dazzling to the filmee. There's a built in slot to insert a supplied diffuser sheet, but it doesn't seem to do that much. I reckon a piece of greaseproof paper or a bit of muslin might do the trick.

But yeah, it whacks out brightness alright.

What's its colour temperature like? I was worried LEDs might be a bit on the blue side?

As for diffusers, I've found tesco value shower curtains to be rather useful in the past

I read a review that said it was a little bit on the blue side, but not much. Plus, I got the MkII, which has a 5000K and a 3200K setting. It's adjustable between the 2. (Or at least, it should be, I'm not quite sure what I'm doing.) Cheers for the diffuser tip!

Shot with iPad camera, in a small room with a small window on a cloudy day. With and without the light on. (From ~7.5ft away.)

Oddly, that image is showing on my iPad, but not on my computer. Orin, is it something to do with the site swap parser? I saw this in the code:

I wonder if Nov2013 is a site swap?!

Meanwhile,...

...that's the image link in code tags, which may or may not show up! (It isn't showing in the post preview.)

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I witnessed the absence of Mark. Which doesn't sound like much, but it's something like only the 4th time he's missed a night in ~10 years.

10 years? crikey, he must have started going as a young 'un!

Rachel was so pleased with herself - and your advice was greatly appreciated.
