#NQPJF8......Should I go? Or should I not? I'm trying to decide........You see, I don't know how to club pass, and I'm terrible-ish at ball passing. And I was looking at videos of "#NQPJF8" and there appears to be a LOT of club passing and stuff........In the past I've had experiences where somebody asks me to club pass and I'm like "uhhhhh......". I don't want to be the guy who's standing in the corner juggling 9 balls while everybody else is doing cool passing stuff......So, is it worth my time to go?

Go.
If you stand in the corner juggling 9 balls - and nothing else - you'll have quite a dull time. So, make the effort to talk to people, and you'll have a great time. "Hi, I'm Ethan.". It's as easy as that.
Go, make new friends, juggle, have fun. :-)

I disagree! Some of the very best conventions I ever went to consisted of a great deal of standing in corners doing numbers juggling! And afaik, this is not a bungeyesque convention with technical juggling restrictions in its bylaws.

Seriously though, do go along! Conventions are great and jugglers are generally really nice and approachable people. They are also great places to pick up new tricks and have a go at new skills.

Incorrect spelling & capitalisation of Bungay is also in the bylaws. This offence is punishable by death.

I thought it was worse than death and offenders had to pitch their tents next to the youngest baby on site

That punishment was deemed to contravene several human rights laws.

If you don't know how to pass clubs then you should go, it could be a wonderful opportunity to learn club passing. As well as a chance for you to pass on all the juggling tricks you know and learn new tricks from other people.
Juggling Conventions can be great fun.

What Miark said.

You don't know how to pass *yet* and that sounds like the ideal place to learn! Passing is great fun, and while it may be daunting for you to be in a room where you're not in the top 10% if you get stuck in you'll have a boat load of fun learning something new!

Go for it

No no no.. definitely don't go.. trust your instincts. Passing clubs is how it all starts, it's how they draw you in. Before you know it you'll be wearing glittery bow ties and waistcoats and trying to get your audience to clap in time to the music, and then the music changes rhythm and they all clap different rhythms and it all turns into a massive nightmare - DON'T DO IT!

Mïark - - Parent

I am not sure the conventions pumpkineater23 went to were juggling conventions.

Sure! I've been the last two years and it's been fun both years. There's a typically a huge range of skill levels, and it's always well-run. And...the winner of the best trick competition gets a bunch of Klondike Bars.

Not being good at passing isn't a big deal at all. The videos you saw were probably from someone really into passing, so that's what they recorded. Plus, if you do want to learn some passing stuff, I'm sure people would be happy to teach you.

I really enjoyed NQP last year, it's a smallish fest but all kinds of different skills there. From Orin's post about your interaction with the two women while practicing, it sounds like some social interaction wouldn't be so bad for you :)

hey now;) What are you trying to imply........Those girls were annoying and they were literally everything I hate about America. I hated everything from their hair that looked the same as every other girl in the US of A, down to there short shorts. yeah yeah yeah.....I know....."I judge people too much";) "I should be more open minded"......yeah whatever, I think I know after YEARS of girls trying to talk to me which ones I can't stand and which ones I can cope with.

I'm not the most outgoing person, damn, I wouldn't even describe myself as "social". However, over the years I've figured out how to appear as if I were a social person..........."cough" "cough", I can appear to be social.....as long as there aren't any girls that are stereotypical Americans in the room;) .........uh oh, my weakness has been exposed............

Mïark - - Parent

Perhaps if you dress like a stereotypical american girl, then you will fulfil the necessary statistical quota of stereotypical american girls usually found at such events and there won't be anyone else dressed in such a fashion. Your choice of attire might also prove to be an interesting talking point.

You may find when you talk to more jugglers, that they are much more interesting in person than on-line jugglers.

Ethan - - Parent

hang on......your right!! I need to dress like a stereotypical american girl!!!! I also need to wear a glittery bow tie...................anyway;)

I will try to make it out for #NQPJF8!!!

pumpkineater23 - - Parent

Sorry, the 'glittery bow tie' comment was just me being a bit silly. You should definitely go, absorb as much as possible and share some of those amazing skills of yours. Have fun!

Ethan - - Parent

So what you're saying is that I can cancel my Amazon order for a "pack of 12 extra glitter bow ties"? ;)

pumpkineater23 - - Parent

Not really worth the hassle IMHO. Keep them and hang them on your christmas tree.

Orinoco - - Parent

You've worked everyone out after only 14 years? That's also got to be a record!

Ethan - - Parent

Hey, when you've seen some of the stuff that I've seen, you would feel a LOT older......And I think I can tell what type of girl I would want to talk to, and what type I don't want to spend any time talking to;) You don't need to be in your 40s to know that.......
