Juggling talkshow JuggleJabber

Hi guys,

I am a fan the existing juggling interview podcasts, but I also have some critique on them. I'd love to see more Europeans, and I'd love to see people connecting in real life rather than through skype conversations. The same topics pop up in every interview too...

So, I thought, I break that pattern! Out of boredom I accidentally made an episode in a bus, and then later sat down for a longer episode at a juggling convention. You can find some of the topics we talked about in the descriptions of the videos.

If you watch this, let me know!
Is this something you want more of? If yes, I'll start taking it a bit more seriously, go with a bit more preparation in these kinda things. If not, I'll promise I never make something boring ever again ;).

This was just a random tryout, but I have many ideas and opinions about this. Feel free to ask!

EP1 with Rob van Heijst, in Dutch but with English subtitles

I was a bit scared before watching it especially since i had some drinks before daniel surprised me with with the idea of recording a podcast but i really like how it turned out. I like the spontanious kinda unmoderated style thats more like two people having a conversation instead of an interview on the other hand it could be a little bit more focused and organised. what i realised while watching was that i´d love to see bigger conversations between more than two jugglers. when you think about talk shows they often get interesting when people start to disagree (fight)with each other but the trend in juggling podcasts seem to be either an interviewer giving a juggler the opportunity to present himself or two jugglers with similar opinions talking about topics they like (which i believe is what we did). I also like the idea of defining a Topic to discuss other then the highlighted juggler before even if we "failed" to talk about our topic for the most part.

Besides that i realised that i said i was out of circus school at one point which is not true, i´ll still study at etage for another half year so i´d like to clarify that.

Id definitly like more of your podcasts and i think your on a good way to find a nice style to do them.

Well done for getting round to doing something similar to what I've spent almost 2years not getting round to doing! Well done, keep at it :)

This is very similar in format to what is been thinking of (although I wasn't going to limit myself to jugglers, I know so many interesting people!)

Unfortunately Pierse Halfpenny was on my dream guest list, and the sad news at BJC was that he has now left us :(

Damn my procrastination!

Blimey, I made a mess of his name there didn't I!

Just got as far as reading this too:

You better start today or there will be more people disappearing from your guest list!

I hope not to limit myself to jugglers but be more al rounded circus, but as a main theme (and name) I thought it was good to start more specific.

hey I'm interested in this.
I can't be bothered to watch the whole thing though, since (for the first one) I don't want to slowly read english subtitles, while you guys speak dutch, which I don't understand - in this case a written down interview would be the better format for me. the second one was a bit too noisy for me to enjoy and also too long. i think it's great that you list the subjects in the video description and I would watch more of the video if you gave links to the time marks when the discussion of said topics starts.

Good to hear!
I am a bit ashamed about the quality of the second, with little effort the video and sound could have been so much better... But it was a spontaneous plan! I'll need to find a better balance between spontaneous conversations and film quality.

As for the subtitles.. As a European show I thought I should record episodes in Dutch, English, German, French... I already spoke with people who would feel more comfortable talking in German on such a thing than English, even though their English is fine.. And so much French knowledge remains unused by the Anglophones! But my French is far from fluent..
Anyway, it was waaaaayy too much work for me to create subtitles for the first ep, and don't want to do that again. Especially if nobody likes to watch/read that.
So, I'll have to talk to people in English? A sad but practical conclusion

Time marks are a clever idea!

I like hearing jugglers speaking non-english languages, it gives me a chance to expand my juggling vocabulary, especially when supported by subtitles. Thanks for that.

I was a bit confused by the wee-wee name reference although from hearing piemel naam and a little googling I was able to get a better idea. Still it isn't a concept that is a big part of American english, I hadn't heard of a wee-wee name before.

It is equally nonsensical in Dutch. Thanks for listening/reading our chatter!

You have perfect timing. I enjoy listening to juggling podcasts/interviews while formatting spreadsheets, coding, etc., and I just happen to have lots of that to do these days!

If you want to see more Europeans, and you want it to be face-to-face, I think you've got the right idea. An American is probably not going to be able to put that together as easily as you can!

Personally, I don't care so much about whether it's face-to-face or not, because I'll probably never watch the video, only listen to it. As such, similarly to Julius, I won't watch the interview with Rob van Heijst, even though I'm somewhat interested in it. I'd certainly read/skim a transcript. I wonder if Youtube analytics could tell you how long people watch with subtitles on, and that may guide you regarding whether or not it's a good use of your time to write them all out (I recall writing subtitles to take me a while).

Even if you don't have a topic in mind when you start, I appreciate when topics that were foucsed on are included in the title. If you're interviewing a juggler I've never heard of, I'd be much more inclined to watch it if it included a subject that I were interested in. I think you did that perfectly here.

I take that back after reading some other comments, timestamps would make the topic list perfect =)

After a lot of dreaming and planning, Juggle Jabber is going to relaunch as a vid/podcast!
I've recorded the first episode yesterday, which has a much better audio & video quality than the ones above, contains much less nonsense, unlike the old ones I was prepared this time and actually listen and let my guest speak. It was a blast, and now I'm super excited!

I have a long list of interesting/influential jugglers I'd love to talk to, as soon as the first 3 episodes are recorded it will all go live. Expected launch is in early December!
For now, you can like the fb page to be sure you are the first to hear anything about it:
https://www.facebook.com/JuggleJabber/

Also, I am looking for some interested people to give me some early feedback. If you would like to help me and have a look behind the scenes, let me know! Reach me at hello@danielsimu.com

That's it for now, of course I'll let you all at the Edge know once Juggle Jabber relaunches!

Yeh, nice. Keep on doin'!

A ``multi-interview´´ more of like a talkshow would be nice.
